It was dumb of Home Depot to deny the exchange on that basis anyways as the PNE tanks are all different types as they are all used. Never had a issue exchanging at the supermarket or homer repair store. I usually refill for a few years then exchange when my current tank starts to get a bit rusty. It doesn’t matter on the «brand» the store will exchange anything as long as it looks in decent shape.

I actually was going to get my old tank refilled in the US but they wouldn’t fill a non-OPD tank. The attendant mentioned they fill by volume in the US so that valve was neccessary. In Canada, they fill by weight so you will still see non-OPD tanks. They indicated the supermarket would exchange my obsolete tank but I was skeptical and was given conflicting info when I asked inside. The two main companies in the US actually will exchange older tanks. I checked Walmart who use tanktraders and the sign indicated they take all tanks but less than 10 yrs old.

They have a date code stamped on them. Mine expired last year and I was able to exchange at Home Depot . I emailed pnepropane in advance and they replied they will exchange an expired tank. A two burner grill in great working condition. Comes with a brand new Blue Rhino propane tank ($50 value). I’m not sure what the fuss is all about. I had an expired tank and had it exchanged at Shell recently. I had taken this tank to costco a few days prior, but they refused to fill it, blue rhino vs amerigas because it had expired. The tank I received in exchange was an older tank with a new valve installed . Brand new and sealed 15 LB propane tank. Moving and the movers cannot move.
